Given a Choice

Posted By admin on March 31, 2008 @ 4:07 pm

One of the biggest moments that I was given in life to choose to make the right or wrong decision was when I was in college.  After barely squeaking into college with a poorly written admission essay, I was having a lot of problems providing the caliber of writing that they were looking for.

By midterms, my average was a failing grade, and I was running out of options.  I had a couple of book reports to do before the end of the term and they were going to either make or break my grade in the class.  I read the books, written a rough report, and showed it to my friends and from what they told me it was going to result in a failing grade.

At this point, I was very tempted to purchase a custom essay off the Internet written at the quality that was expected of me in college.  I knew that if I did this and I was caught I would risk permanent expulsion from the college.

Though this would have been an easy out, I decided to take advantage of the writing services available on campus and they helped me to craft better papers than I could have on my own.  In the end, I passed the classes and felt good knowing that I had made the right choice.

A Girl that Mattered

When I first became a college professor, I was not surprised at the number of custom term papers that my students handed in to me. It was not long ago that I was in their shoes, myself, and I remember the pressures of trying to get everything done and the temptation of getting a little bit of extra help.

Lucky for them, I could tell the students that were trying and just needed a little boost and the students that were going to pay their way through college. I had one student that was struggling so much and she did not think she was going to make it. I, however, was not surprised when she came to me to talk about her thesis.

I told her that I had faith in her from day one. I knew she wanted it more than most of the other kids in my first class and I knew that she would one day be working on her dissertation. She thanked me for having faith in her and I told her that if I made a difference in just one person, than my job had been worth it.

Our New Town Act

Posted By Twyla on @ 2:11 pm

Last month, for the first time ever, we had a circus come to our small city. It was like Christmas for the kids as the whole town worked together to make it happen and prepare for the event. It was all they could talk about for days before the event and all they could talk about for weeks afterwards.

I must admit that it was a little odd to see circus and fire entertainers practicing their acts outside of the town’s auditorium before the performance, but it just added to the excitement for the kids. I know that anywhere we went, we had to drive by so that the kids could see who was out practicing.

My young son thought that it was the greatest thing in the world to drive by what was usually an empty parking lot and see elephants lazily munching on hay. It was a great experience for the whole family and it went over so well that I am sure we will see them back next year. I know two little ones that can hardly wait!

Taking Driving Lessons

Posted By admin on March 29, 2008 @ 4:21 pm

When I was a teenager, I wanted to drive like everyone of my peers.  It was one of those milestones that we all look forward to, and I was no different than the rest.  Most people would go driving with their parents to practice, but I was unable to.

You see, both of my parents are in wheelchairs and are unable to drive.  That has not stopped them from living their lives, but it did put them in the situation where they were unable to take me out to learn how to drive a car.

So, they enrolled me in driving lessons in Solihull, not far from where I lived.  The driving school was very courteous and picked me up at the door of my home for each lesson.

I am so happy that they enrolled me in the course as I was able to learn how to drive easily.  Since that day, my parents’ lives became less expensive as they didn’t have to get me a cab to go to all the activities that I was participating in.

Ready to Rock

I live in Saskatchewan and it is the home of the Craven Country Jamboree every summer. We get some big name entertainers, such as Reba McIntyre and Keith Urban. I never miss a single year and I look forward to it when the winter starts to seem a bit too long and a bit too cold.

As summer draws closer, I know it is time to buy event tickets to this year’s jamboree. The talent list is really good, as usual and I can’t wait to see the friends that I have made over the years.  There is one group of us that always camps together so we can sit outside our tents at night with a beer and a good visit.

I also love to do some dancing while I am there. We get tourists from all over the place come out and it is a great time of entertainment and partying for many. I have already booked off my holidays from work and am searching yard sales for camping gear that might come in handy this year.

Dr. of Self Esteem

Posted By admin on March 26, 2008 @ 2:16 pm

newcoloriris-before-and-after I went to a small seminar that was being offered on how to change your eye color. I am interested in this, as I am a medical student studying to become a plastic surgeon and I had never heard of this procedure before. It interested me, as it is exactly the type of thing that I would like to do in my own practice one day.

I really paid a lot of attention at the seminar so that I could learn exactly how to change eye color on other people. I am fine with the color of my own eyes, but I know that there are a lot of people out there who do not love their eye color and a procedure like this could change their lives.

Many people think that being a plastic surgeon is not as worthy as other types of doctors, but I disagree. I think that by changing what someone thinks is an imperfection, it will help self esteem and that is very important. In fact, and iris color change could mean that someone thinks of themselves in a whole new light.

Learning About Self Storage

Posted By admin on March 25, 2008 @ 2:21 pm

Sure, I have stored some of my stuff at a self storage facility, but now that I am older, an interesting investment opportunity has come to my attention.  You see, the self storage facility in town is for sale at a great price, and I am considering buying it.  Problem is, I have never run one of them before.

So, I thought that I would go online to see if I could find a website that had some information about running a storage facility and to see if it would be a good investment or not.

I found a good website that had a self storage owner podcast available for download.  This way, I was able to listen to it to and from work on a daily basis.  From the podcasts, I learned a lot of the ins and outs when it comes to owning and operating a self storage facility.

It sounds like it should be easy enough to run a self storage facility.  I have to crunch a couple more numbers and then I think that I will put an offer in on the one that is for sale.

Just Like Mom

Posted By Twyla on March 24, 2008 @ 7:21 pm

When my husband and I were looking for our first house together it was just as important to me that I love the yard as well as the house.  My mother always had the most beautiful flower gardens and she grew the tastiest foods in her vegetable garden.  I wanted to have all of that.  I figured that at least some of her green thumb had to have worn off on me.

I had a lot of lovely houseplants and I could grow them well, but it was just not the same thing as having a garden.  When we were looking at houses, our realtor always made sure to check what kinds of garden features the house had before having us come to take a look at it.  She knew how important this was to me.

We ended up finding the perfect house with the perfect yard.  It has four different flower gardens and a really big vegetable garden.  The house is also everything that I ever dreamed of.  I am happy that we found something that seems like it was created just for us and I honestly can’t ever see myself leaving.

Communicating to Our Joint Venture Partners

I have organized a joint venture partner group for real estate investors.  The idea behind a group is to allow us to have the opportunity to get into large-scale real estate investments that we would normally not be able to invest in on our own.  These opportunities have included apartment complexes, hotels and large commercial buildings.

You would think that the hardest part of the whole group would be the organization and collection of funds before closing a purchase of an investment property.  Strangely, that hasn’t been our problem.  In fact, our largest challenge has been finding a medium with which the partners have the opportunity to communicate with one another.

It would have been the easy to have a meeting with everyone in one room if we all lived in the same city.  But that is not the case.  You see, some of the partners do live in the same country as I do, but a lot of them live overseas.  What we needed was an efficient communication method that was easy and affordable.

One of the partners suggested that we can use toll-free conferencing through AffordableConferencing.com.  He had used it before for one of his companies and he had mentioned that the pricing and service were second to none.

So we have contacted the company and have signed up for their service.  We will be testing it out on our conference call this weekend, and hopefully everything will run smoothly.

Ditching the Party

Posted By Twyla on March 22, 2008 @ 4:54 pm

I was invited to a candle party. Unsure of exactly what this was, I asked what candles had to do with a party. It was explained to me that it was a gathering of mostly women where we would smell and then purchase candles. I thought this sounded like a very silly idea, but I decided to go anyway, just for fun.

That was a bad idea. There were a lot of different candles burning at the same time and I was getting a headache from all of these different fragrances mingled together. I stayed only as long as to seem polite and then quickly got out of there. I can tell that these are high quality candles and that they would be nice if one was to light only one scent at a time.

I think that they would actually sell more if they did not go overboard and try to light so many candles. I think they should choose only one scent for a party and fill the rest of the holders with non scented candles. I would have been able to handle it then. At least I know what a candle party is now and next time can think of an excuse to get out of it.
