What are the Origins of Noni?

Posted By Lawrence Kirkland on March 7, 2009 @ 1:10 pm
by Frank Priarson

The noni tree originates in the south pacific, most likely Hawaii, growing in the back lava soil left behind by the Island’s many volcanoes. It can grow up to 30 feet tall, and is related to the coffee tree, being in the Rubiaceae family. It will also grow in shady forests, sandy and rocky shores, saline soils, secondary soils, and limestone outcrops. It is however more common and grows better in the lava soil beds. Today it grows in Tahiti, French Polynesia, Southeast Asia, all of the Pacific Islands, and even in the Dominican Republic.

The Noni tree has many names including Morinda Citrifolia, great morinda, Indian mulberry, mengkudu, and beach mulberry. This tree produces flowers and fruits all year long. The fruit is known as Cheese fruit because of the smell it produces when it is ripening. The fruit is white with a tough skin that looks like a cross between a pineapple and a gourd. It really isn’t a pretty fruit and if you didn’t know what it was you would probably be very skeptical about eating it. The fruit has many seeds inside, and is nicknamed starvation fruit because it tastes pretty bad by itself too. Admittedly, Noni is more popular for its juice than for its fruit.

The whole fruit and powder has large levels of dietary fiber and carbohydrates. It also contains many Vitamins, such as Iron, Potassium, Vitamin A, and Calcium. Additionally, the fruit contains fatty acids, polysaccharides, flavanoids, phytoestrogens, and indoids.

Noni also has trace amounts of beta-sitosterol which is an anti-cholesterol agent. The fruit, leaves, and bark are all used in many health food manufacturers and countries for herbal and natural healing remedies. In China, Samoa, Japan and Tahiti, they use the flowers, fruit, bark, leaves, and roots for herbal remedies that treat or cure fever, eye problems, skin ailments, throat gum maladies, bowel and intestine problems and respiratory malfunctions.

The Malaysians make poultices from the leaves of the Noni Plant to aid in the relief of coughing, nausea, general colds and respiratory ailments. Indochinese make poultices for broken bones and sprains to relieve the pain. They also insist that parts of the plant help in lumbago and asthma.

This Queen Fruit or Canoe Fruit as it was named by early Polynesian tribes, traveled with them wherever they went. Because of its healing and health benefits it was one of the things the tribe would consider essential to travel or take with them. They would eat the fruit, drink the juice, use it for medical purposes and save the seeds to plant.

Colotox Review

Posted By Peter Wood on @ 9:49 am
by Peter Wood

Today I decided to review Colotox because it seems to be gaining in popularity as well as having a seemingly higher advertising budget. It first glance, it looks like many other colon cleansing product, but when I started to look deeper into the company behind the product, I started to see some red flags. This brief version of my full Colotox review will hopefully give you some insight into what one can expect when purchasing from Colotox.

In terms of ingredients, Colotox is a pretty run of the mill product. It has the regular colon cleansing (fiber based) ingredients that many others have. I don’t why one couldn’t expect the product to function as it’s supposed to. So the product itself seems fine, it’s the business practices that have me worried.

Colotox, like a few other colon cleansing scams, has a very big ‘free trial’ option on their website. I hoped for the best, and started digging into their terms and conditions. To my dismay (not very surprising unfortunately) they have an autoship described in the fine print that they hope you wont see. If you accept the free trial you only have 14 days to cancel the program before you are charged $38.95 for a month’s supply of the product that is being shipped to you. 30 days after your order you begin receiving shipments and charged $44.90 every month thereafter until you cancel. What’s sad is that most people won’t realize this and will get scammed into the free trial and get hit with a bunch of unnexpected charges 14 days later.

It was even more alerted when I saw their return policy. It appears that you are charged a 15% restocking fee for all returned items. And according to some of the complaint boards on the internet, there have been quite a few that have had a hard time even contacting the company to request a refund.

Now, it wasn’t easy but after a lot of searching I was able to find the company behind Colotox: Central Coast Nutraceuticals Inc. To make a long story short, the Better Business Bureau gave them an ‘F’ rating. And aparently for good reason. I also found a complaint filed against them through the Arizona Attorney General’s office for using deceptive and misleading sales practices. Needless to say, it’s not looking good for Colotox.

In summary, Colotox should be avoided at all costs. If you aware of the autoship, restocking fee, and poor customer service and you still want to purchase Colotox, then go right ahead. But unfortunately most people will get taken advantage of by these shady business practices.

Xerox Phaser 6110 – Maintain Space In Your Office

Posted By Joseph James on @ 9:23 am
by Ben Pate

Xerox is a name that is well recognized in the copying industry and their latest affordable laser printer coming onto the market is the Xerox Phaser 6110 Printer. When compared to other products that are supposed to be in the same niche as this one, it is very inexpensive and you have to wonder why.

Every printer has its pros and cons, but one of the best features that stands out on the Xerox Phaser 6110 is the fact that it is so tiny. While it is not a shoebox printer, it is pretty close. It measures only 15″x14″x10″ and will allow you to make the most of the small space that you probably have for peripherals in your home office.

The processor is fairly quick for such an inexpensive model as it features 300MHz. The printer also has a color resolution of 2400dpi x 600dpi which is also in the upper range of what you would expect at this price point. When you are printing detailed images, this is very helpful in processing them quickly.

As far as what to be concerned about, it only prints about 17ppm but more than likely, in the setting it is meant for, that should be more than fast enough. You would however still like to see a little higher output rate from a laser printer. It also does not have a double sided printing feature which means manually reloading a presentation if you want to utilize both sides of the paper.

If you are looking for the competition, you would be pointed to the HP Color LaserJet CP1215 and the Samsung CLP-315, but the comparison is in features, not price. You are looking at pretty much the same printer when you sit them side by side, but the Xerox comes in at about half of what these models will cost.

Utilizing the 6100 toner cartridge, the Xerox Phaser 6110 can handle basic image printing, color documents and presentations and can load paper up to legal size. It has a bin capacity of 150 pages and an output capacity of 100 pages, more than enough. It also has a decent monthly duty cycle of over 24,000 pages.

Depending upon what why you are purchasing this printer will decide if it is the right choice for you. This printer is definitely not meant to crank out papers left and right. Some of the common feedback is that it will overheat if you abuse it. This does not mean that it is a bad printer, but as we stated earlier, it is meant more for home use or a small home business. This not meant for a corporate office.

Scarlet Pimpernel

Posted By Zachary Sheep on @ 9:21 am
by Zachary Sheep

There is scarcely a field boundary, headland, or patch of fallow land where the gay bright scarlet flowers of the Pimpernel are not found. Few plants have such neat star-like flowers with the rich colour and expanse of the petals standing out in sharp contrast to the narrow linear-lanceolate sepals.

Sometimes, however, the more or less harmless thistles of the genus Carduus are unfairly maligned, sharing the blame due to the thistles of the genus Cirsium, a much more prickly foe. The two groups differ mainly in the structure of the pappus on the achene: in the Carduus it is composed of simple hairs, while in the Cirsium of plumose hairs.

Welted Thistle is a typical example of a biennial in the field and in the wild in general. If it germinates in spring, it forms a ground rosette of leaves the first year but does not produce flowers. The following year it produces an erect stem, up to 120 cm long, terminating at the top, and at the tips of side branches, in erect flowerheads.

It is most likely to be damaged by the presence of even a slight spring or autumn frost. Common Hemp-nettle used to be an annoying weed in field crops, particularly grain, when these were harvested by hand as the spiny points of the calyx after flowering caused painful scratches. However the plant yields a drug used to treat diseases of the respiratory tract.

The thistle head is composed of a great many tiny tubular florets (1); those on the margin are larger and sometimes sterile but never ligulate. The fruit is a minute achene.

A single plant produces as many as 700 seeds. The Scarlet Pimpernel is an annual herb but in mild winters it may survive and commence growth again in spring. Since it does not have a deep root system, winter does not pose as much of a threat as summer drought. It is a weed of field crops – root or grain.

Mayhaw Fruits

Posted By Ian Kleine on @ 9:21 am
by Ian Kleine

So, what is mayhaw? If you’re not a wildlife buff, you wouldn’t have a lamb’s idea what a mayhaw is, technically speaking. They taste putrid, but darn it, those little things make for some good jelly. And I ain’t bluffing about it.

I came across this particular jelly when a neighbor brought some back from her trip across Texas. Said it was good ‘pikin’ since these bottles don’t come often. Most of the folks don’t have an idea how to make jelly, much more mayhaw jelly. Well, what in tarnation is a mayhaw?

Mayhaws are fruits (they are) about an inch big. It’s red or yellow when ripe, but darn it, does it taste foul when eaten raw. They’re harvested from the middle of April through May, growing in trees. The trees reach at least 20 or 30 feet, often found in low, wetlands, on usually acidic soil. They excel well in soil found upland though, an irony in most cases.

These trees do grow in the marshes, sloughs, swamps and in rivers. Harvesting was hard, and had to use boats in order to have access to the fruits. It was an informal ritual to harvest mayhaws during early spring till summer. The ritual does not leave you unrewarded though. The rewards for the deserving are the bucket loads of fruits that fall off the tree, right into your boat or your nets.

Mayhaw may suck in the fruit category, but they make one of the most heavenly jams. The taste is uniquely divine, inspired by at least three or four flavors most Americans would be aware of. It is a southern delicacy, a preserved ambrosia, a jam of ages. Well, putting it bluntly, it tastes good and I’d be willing to spend my bottom dollar so I could get myself one bottle of it.

Self Inking Stamps in Modern Business Practices

Posted By Hagen van Peterson on @ 9:07 am
by Hagen van Peterson

In a modern office setting one of the most important drawer of your desk is the one that holds all the stamps. It has at least seven different custom stamps all having an integral part in the daily business. These stamps all have different functions – they are all important, but none is more important as the self inking stamps.

Save inking stamps are widely-used – in most cases stamps are self inking stamps. But they are taken for granted that they mostly are not even noticed. They are availabe, they work and they are handy tools – that’s all. Self inking stamps are a helpful without attracting attention, but they have eliminated a step in the stamping process that saves office workers a valuable amount of time.

You can get custom self inking stamps already at a very low cost and they are still an integral part of today’s business world. Self inking stamps help to promote organization as well as efficiency. Mostly there are three ways that self inking stamps can support your business:

1. Self inking stamps improve your organization. Mostly you can buy self inking stamps in at least three different colors – red, blue or black. So you can easily and quickly see where the document belongs.

2. Self inking stamps reduce mess and clutter on your desk or in your drawer. Without the messy inkpad, you don’t have to clean up smudges or spills.

3. Self inking stamps save you a valuable amount of time. By saving the unnecessary movement with your arm to the inkpad you cut the time it takes to stamp your paper in half.

Self inking stamps are small and mostly unnoticed devices. But these stamps have an effect on the professionalism of your business. These kind of stamps can improve your organization and also optimize your workflow. For these reasons alone, the small investment in self inking stamps is justified.

You can also get creative with self inking stamps.

Self inking stamps can be customized for almost every purpose. Maybe you are working as a teacher and would like to introduce a new and individual way to compliment your students on their work. Or it is a family member’s birthday, and you want to express them how much you love them. These stamps can be customized to fit almost every appliance.
