Better Than All the Rest

Posted By admin on October 7, 2008 @ 2:22 pm

When I asked my future wife to marry me I knew that I was going to go through one of the most important events of my life. Besides the fact that I loved the girl deeply, I wanted to show her how much I truly loved her through the care and attention that I would give to the wedding planning.

Now be the first admit that I’m no wedding planner, but any there are some simple things that I could do and suggest to make our wedding one of the best that has ever been. I figured that the key was to pay attention to the little details such as picking out a custom aisle runner and those little details would come together to make a wonderful wedding.

After phoning around to number wedding stores in our area, I learned that most of them didn’t have any idea as to what an aisle runner was. No, I didn’t make it up, so instead I decided to go online to see what I could find.

Thankfully there was a number of custom aisle runners available from a handful of websites and I was able to find one that truly represent what I felt about this girl.

Even now, almost 5 years later, people still talk about how amazing our wedding really was.

Strange Birthday Present

Posted By admin on July 25, 2008 @ 7:53 pm

I’ve received a lot of strange birthday presents my lifetime, but I would have to say the one I received this year was the weirdest.  Well maybe weird was in the right word, but the present I received wasn’t really the right thing to give me.

You see, my brother has been struggling with credit card debt for a long time now and he decided to buy me a book on how to reduce credit card debt.  Funny thing is I don’t even have a credit card!

Needless to say I did read the book in its entirety.  It was a very interesting read and I learned about poor credit debt consolidation loans as well as how to follow the many debt diet plans available.

I will take it as a sign that he bought this book so that I could help him out that I think we’ll go out for coffee next week to talk about it.

A Funny Way to Learn Responsibility

Posted By Twyla on July 20, 2008 @ 5:56 pm

My cousin called me asking if he had left his Zune car charger in my car. He was missing it and he knew he was going to be in big trouble if he didn’t find it. It was reasonably new and he had been told that he had better take care of it. You see, he is not the most responsible person in the world.

Not wanting him to get into trouble, I offered to loan him my Zune travel charger until he found his. I told him that his mom would not know the difference, but she would certainly notice if he came home without either.

It was kind of funny because she ended up buying him a new Zune dock cable to reward him for taking such good car of his things. He never did find his charger, but he ordered a new one without her ever finding out.

My Husband, the Hermit

Posted By Twyla on June 23, 2008 @ 12:40 pm

I am a very social person. I love to get out and do things with my friends. The only problem is that my husband is not a social person at all. He would never leave the house if he didn’t have to. Whenever I suggest that we go out and do some shopping, he starts looking at online shopping deals. It is like pulling teeth getting him to go anywhere.

When I heard that one of the stores I frequent quite often was having some great LCD TV deals, I thought that he would jump at the chance. Even that did not get him moving very quickly and that surprised me, as I knew he had wanted an LCD TV for awhile.

He was still certain that he could find a better deal online and I pretty much just gave up that day. I will go on being the social person that I am and he will go on being antisocial like he is. I guess it works for us, and at least it gives me a break from the kids.

Scared of Asking Women Out

Posted By admin on June 21, 2008 @ 1:03 pm

One of my biggest challenges when it came to dating was asking women out.  I don’t know what my problem was, but I just couldn’t get around the whole idea of going out on a limb and asking a women if she wanted to date me.  I guess I was just scared of being rejected, but the fact of the matter is that I was not going to be able to find a life partner.

That is when a good friend of mine suggested that I try to find local singles online.  It was not only going to be easier, but it would make it so that the women would ask me out instead of me having to do it myself.

So, I signed up at as many free online dating sites that I could find, in hopes of finding that special girl.  As it turns out, that is how I met my wife, and I have had a happy life ever since.

My Boys

Posted By Twyla on June 17, 2008 @ 4:11 pm

The first year that I had my puppy, Dancer, I spoiled him rotten. He had tons of toys, the best foods and I am sure that his dog bed was more comfortable than my own. I loved having someone to spoil and in turn, I loved the fact that I had a little dog that was completely loyal to me.

When my friend had to move to another state and found out that she could not take her dog with her, I did not hesitate to accept her dog as a part of our little family. The dogs got along very well and I was happy that Dancer had someone to play with while I was gone all day at work.

I have their little dog beds sitting on the floor at the end of my bed, but they are actually pretty useless, as both dogs usually end up in bed with me. That is quite alright though. They are my boys and I love them more than I would have ever imagined.

Finding an Address Easily

Posted By admin on June 15, 2008 @ 3:54 pm

Today I thought that I had everything together, but I guess I was wrong.  You see, I was supposed to go to an appointment at a clients house, but I made the mistake of doing laundry.

You know what I mean, when you forget to empty your pockets and wash something that you just shouldn’t have washed.  In my case, I washed the paper that had the address that I needed.  It was no longer in any sort of readable condition, so I was in trouble.

Thankfully, I still had their phone number, so I decided to do a reverse phone lookup and get the address that way.  I just went online, found a reverse phone number website, and put their number in.  One click and I had the number.

I made it to my appointment just in time - thankfully I had an easy way to find the address.

Lasting Memories

Posted By Twyla on June 14, 2008 @ 11:13 am

The greatest person that I ever met in my whole life was my grandfather. We had a special bond that was shared only between the two of us and no one else. I knew that I was his favorite grandchild, though I know he would never actually come out and say it.

When I was thirteen, he gave me the greatest birthday gift that any new teenager could ever imagine. He took me on a trip to Scotland with him, to visit with his family there. It was amazing and I will never forget how special he always made me feel.

The memories of that trip are very dear to me, as Grandpa passed away later that summer. He had been battling cancer and never told anyone about it. I think that he knew it was the last chance he had to make lasting memories with him. He was an incredible man and I miss him so much, even yet.

Helping Some Friends in Need

Posted By Twyla on June 6, 2008 @ 12:12 am

We are having a fundraiser golf tournament for a family in our church. The mother, a good friend of mine, has been diagnosed with cancer, and it has been very hard on the family. They have two small children, both under five years old who do not understand what is wrong with their mommy.

I decided that I would contact the marketing departments of some large companies and see if they would be willing to donate some prizes in trade for some advertising. It was a success and we got many great prize donations. It was actually quite a bit more than we were expecting to get.

The tournament was a huge success and I know that the family is very thankful for all of the support, prayers and encouragement that they have received. We still try to help out in little ways. I often take the little girls for the day so my friend can get the rest that she needs.

5 Strange Things About Me

Posted By Deb Gallardo on June 1, 2008 @ 10:51 am

1. I am a “nester.” This means that where I plant myself I tend to stay. When scientists defined inertia as “A body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay at rest.” they had me in mind.

2. At age 17 I discovered the wonders of 800 numbers and availed myself of every toll free number I could find for airlines, hotels, and anyone else in the travel industry I could think of. I desperately wanted to see what else was “out there” besides cows, corn and manure.

3. I know how to swim and passed my required college course in swimming and diving, but I hate the water! I’m terrified of it. No matter how many times I dove under water, I never got comfortable with it.

4. I am unable to swim under water. No, this has nothing to do strange thing number 3 and being afraid of diving. See strange thing number 5.

5. I was the first girl in the fourth grade to wear a bra. There, I’ve said it out loud in front of God and everyone. And because of those, well, growths, my instructors determined I was naturally buoyant. Lovely. I come equipped with bra-encased pontoons. If that doesn’t qualify as strange, I don’t know what does.
